A friend told us we had to go and see the Olympic 2010 medals, in the Royal Mint building at the corner of Pender and Granville Streets. We left the house at 8:10 am, arriving at the place at 8:30. We waited in line for TWO hours. At 10:30 we were admitted to a guarded room, with about 10 other people, and we got to take our time and we each had a chance to hold the medals, which are quite heavy and very beautiful. We met one of the designers of the medals (first photo above) and he told us this is the first time in history that the public has been allowed to handle the medals. You cannot put them around your neck or bite them, and you have to wear a glove (given to each person) when handling the medals. The glove states "I touched a gold medal". This was the highlight of the Olympic venues downtown. I think it's a must see!

How neat is that!! I'm envious...wish I could be there too! Good pictures. I liked seeing them close up.
