First Day of School 45 years ago!

45 years ago it was my first day of school.
I attended Sir Wilfred Grenfell from Kindergarten until Grade 7.
I adored school!
The above photo was taken in March 1966, with my sister Marlene on my bed.
I had just gotten dressed for school and my Mom snapped the picture.
Maybe she thought Marlene and I looked too cute? I don't know where Leona was.
I remember this was one of my favourite dresses. It was a brown plaid cotton. Notice my leotards. I usually skinned a hole in one knee, sooner or later. It seemed I was always tripping and falling down.
When I think of my Kindergarten days, I remember nap times on my blanket on the floor; snack times with crackers and cheese, or salted apple pieces; playing house; and best of all, painting a picture each day! My Mom would always come and pick me up at the bottom of the stairs after school. School days were such happy days for me, except for the time I woke up with chicken pox and was told I'd have to miss a party at school. I was so disappointed because I didn't feel in the least sick.

Wonderful post. I just love this photograph. You look adorable and your sister literally looks like a doll. I thought she was your doll at first glance. ;) I too, had a favorite plaid dress at that age. It was green and black in color. I remember for snack we alternated between milk and cookies, and milk and large pretzel sticks. We didn't have nap-time, but at least they didn't expect us to be reading like they do the children today! Kindergarten used to mean playtime...but sadly not anymore.
Have a wonderful week.

I remember all of that too except for salted apple pieces. Do you really put salt on the apple?? :) We didn't do that in NJ. I wore plaid dresses, had snacks, rested on floor mats, etc., just like you. Love the picture and the expression on your sister's face is priceless.
