The PNE is 100 years old!

100 years ago in 1910, the Pacific National Exhibition opened in Vancouver BC.
It's still going strong.
The above photo shows the 1947 PNE parade.
Mysteriously, I was never taken to any parades. My Dad loves them, but my Mom hates them because of the crowds.

Elvis Presley was one of the most famous entertainers at the PNE.
He put on a very short show in 1957. The mobs were too big.
This is a young performer at the PNE, in 1962; his name is Stevie Wonder!
I recently discovered that Michael Buble also perfomed at the PNE before he became well known and famous. And the Beattles visited here too, in 1964.

And here we are, not so famous, but still enjoying the PNE!

My Dad trying out the shoe polish in the Show Mart building, my favourite place at the PNE next to the barns!
Leona and I in front of the barns. It was an extremely HOT day!
My Mom and I.

My Dad beside an adorable Dairyland truck.

Robert took the picture. We had a fun day. The miniature horse show was a complete flop, but the rest was just as we remembered except the price of everything has escalated. But the fudge, scones, mini donuts and the BBQ chicken and baked beans, plus the soft ice cream, are all as delicious as ever!
Leona kindly went with me through the PNE prize home; she had already been through at the beginning of the day. This year's house is so beautiful. This is my favourite room; the laundry room! If you click on the photo, you can see it larger. Study the WALL. It's soooo neat!
Leaving at the end of a fun day. I wish we had more energy to spend all day, and see the Kaboom show at the end with fireworks. Robert went back by himself, but we zonked out.

Isn't the PNE great! 100 years and still going. Just amazing.
I love the scones and mini donuts and bbq chicken. Elephants ears are good too. When I was litle my mom always bought me ice-cream cones with three scoops. I could never finish it.
I didn't know Elvis Presley and Stevie Wonder performed at the PNE.

Wow, looks like a great place to spend the day. We don't have anything nearly as big as that here in Central Texas. Looks like super fun.
Have a great weekend!

Oh those were the days... I remember going to the PNE. I loved it when for several years in a row one of the buildings was on a specific country... Russia, China, etc. That was always my favourite.
Hey Loretta, if you get a chance, check out my blogs new picture!

I have not been to the PNE for years and years. I must put it on my bucket list! My parents saved and saved to go when I was little. We didn't have much money but it was such a treat.
I must take the time to tell you about my dad and my adventure on the roller coaster!
We were put in the very front car...up and down we went...dad laughed so hard his false teeth went flying out of his mouth and for the remainder of the ride his teeth flew under everyones feet from the front to the back of the car as we traveled up and down and up and down and around. By the time we stopped dads teeth were back at his feet. I almost wet my pants...my mom was standing watching us and dad had no teeth in when he got off.
I have never forgotten the laughter and fun. Needless to say, dad never went on the ride again.
Thanks for the memories my friend.
I smell pumpkin pie in Lynden in October? Meet you there! Let me know when would be best!
