Pink Saturday, March 7/09

Welcome to another pink Saturday, hosted by Beverly at How Sweet the Sound.
This Saturday I'm taking a nostalgic look into my past. The above paper doll set is one of my personal favourites. I think I bought it in Oregon on one of our family trips to my uncle's farm in the 1970's. It was 39 cents. I carefully cut out each dress, and kept it in excellent shape. I laid out the PINK items for you to view.
Please click on each of the photos to enlarge and see the detail.

I wore this dress when I was two years old, and yes, I still have it! Isn't it a lovely shade of rose pink?

Here's a photo of myself wearing the dress in 1962, pushing away a doll from my Aunt Frieda. I didn't like this doll at all because she was hard (filled with sawdust) and she had red hair! That's my little sister, Leona, sitting beside me.

Last Saturday, Feb 28, was a very special day for me. My parents came to visit in the morning, and gave me a belated Valentine's Day gift. (I had been very sick with bronchitis on Valentine's) Isn't she cute? She's a Valentine Barbie, with her own little Valentine!

My mom had another surprise for me; a belated Christmas gift. She was going to give this doll to me at Christmas, but there was so much snow we were all housebound for weeks. So she decided to give her to me at Valentine's and then I got sick. Well, better late than never! This doll is an Effanbee "Sweetie Pie" from the 1930-1940 era. My mom spotted her in Montgomery Ward store in McMinnville OR, when she was 12 years old.
She begged her parents for the doll. She said it could be "my last doll". Her parents agreed, and my mom got the doll right away; she didn't have to wait until Christmas. She cost $11.99 in 1945. She named her Peggy Sue, and carefully kept her all these years. She is wearing her original pink dress and bonnet. Isn't she darling? And wasn't it a very special sort of PINK DAY?

Hello Loretta, you so remind me of my mother's family. They keep everything. I love that and I am somewhat the same way. I still have my prom dress.

Your paper doll of Mary Poppins is so sweet and perfect. I love your collection of dolls and some of them are very special. The doll your mom gave you is a wonderful treasure and so sweet that it was hers. Last but not least is your own little pink dress. Adorable in pink. So are your photos. I enlarged them and the detail was great.

Nice job on your pink post today.

Hugs...Jeanne

You still get dolls for presents?! How sweet! I collected dolls and still have them, but no longer buy them...they began to take over my house!

Great pink post!

I love paper dolls - so many memories from my childhood come to mind. And dolls, the little effanbee doll reminds me of my Tiny Tears doll. She had a pink corduroy jacket and bonnet that my grandmother made - sadly, my parents misplaced her and I never got her back. Happy Pink Saturday!
